Ultimate Make-Ahead Thanksgiving Guide: Tuesday

Follow

The Tuesday to-do list is all about getting ahead of the food prep. All of the grocery shopping should be done, the house should be spruced up and decorated. The only things left are the meal and setting the table. Over the weekend we prepped all of the freezer friendly dishes. Tuesday is for prepping the pies and baked goods that will keep until Thursday and starting the great thaw.

Tuesday

  • Get baked!
Don't stress over pies on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Bake pies at a leisurely pace on Tuesday evening. Allow pies to cool completely. Cover and store in a cool, dry place (garage, basement) until ready to serve. Be sure to hide these from any midnight snackers!
  • Did you forget to thaw your turkey? It's not too late. Skip the fridge and head to the sink or a cooler with that sucker. Submerge wrapped turkey in cold water, breast side down. Cold water thawing takes about 30 minutes per pound. Change water every 30 minutes to ensure that turkey does not spoil.
  • You spent the weekend prepping and freezing all of those delicious side dishes. Don't let them turn to hockey pucks. Remember to move Cream Dairy-Free Butternut Squash Soup and Homemade Pressure Cooker Cranberry Sauce to refrigerator from freezer to thaw.
  • Expecting any vegetarian guests? Now is also the time to thaw your Tofurkey.
