Ultimate Make-Ahead Thanksgiving Guide: Weekend

Follow

The key to a successful Make-Ahead Thanksgiving is leveraging your free time this weekend for prep. Don't worry, this weekend is for more than Thanksgiving. The recipe prep on this weekends to-do list should only take about 2 hours! It seems early to start cooking for Thursday, but that's what your freezer is for! Focus on prepping and freezing the dishes that can stand the cold to minimize your cooking on feast day. Watch the daily guide for thawing instructions later in the week!

Weekend

The to-do list for this weekend is a bit longer, but critical to the make-ahead aspect of the Ultimate Make-Ahead Thanksgiving Guide.
  • Have you grocery shopped? You can't make-ahead without the ingredients! Make sure you hit the grocery store at an off time (early Saturday, Saturday night) to avoid lines and crowds. Get your grocery list here.
  • Prep Freezer-Friendly Pigs in a Blanket & freeze
  • Cook Creamy Dairy- Free Butternut Squash Soup & freeze
  • Cook Homemade Pressure Cooker Cranberry Sauce & freeze
  • Are you thawing your turkey in the refrigerator? Move it out of the freezer by Sunday! That big bird will need 24 hours per 4 pounds to defrost by Thursday morning!
  • Work on any tidying up around the living areas of the house that can be done ahead of time
    • Run that Roomba!
    • Make sure Halloween-specific decor is away, like witches, cauldrons, and bats. Don't be afraid to keep the pumpkins and scarecrows on hand for festive fall tablescapes and decor! Check back Monday for my guide on letting some Halloween decorations work double duty for Thanksgiving.
    • Focus on sprucing up the stuff that can stay clean until Thursday (wipe down couches, toss throw blankets in the laundry to freshen up, wipe down leather surfaces, pass the Swiffer, dust/spray down coffee tables).
    • Consider delegating some of this to tiny humans and hubbys while you work on prepping the freezer-friendly dishes. Teamwork makes the dream work!
