April is a month of birthdays in the Benjamin house. We started the month celebrating Ross' 29th birthday and we'll round it out celebrating All About the Benjamins 2015's 1st birthday tomorrow. Needless to say, I've been busy making cakes to cut into for the all of the celebrations. But not to worry, you do not need to be a master pastry chef to make this cake. Follow my easy instructions for a No Bake Beer Can Cake to wow your guests and guests of honor, in minutes, not hours!
No Bake Beer Can Cake
Supplies
22 bottles/cans of beer (I used 15 cans, 6 bottles and 1 large specialty bottle)
Cardboard
Scissors
Ruler
Wrapping paper
Tape
Decorations (ribbon, tulle, etc)
Instructions
On a flat surface, sturdy cake plate or platter, assemble the first layer of beer. This layer uses 12 beers. This consists of 10 beers on the perimeter and 2 in the center to support the layer above, as shown below. I suggest using cans for the base, they are more stable than bottles.
The first layer should measure about 10" in diameter. Using your ruler, sketch a 10" circle on your cardboard (or trace the perimeter of a bowl/plate in the 10" range). Cut out the circle. Cut out a 12" square of wrapping paper and cover the top of the cardboard, securing to the bottom with tape. Place this on top of the first layer for support.
On top of the first cardboard round, begin to assemble the second layer of beer. This layer uses 6 beers (bottles or cans). This layer is a great opportunity to feature a specialty 6-pack without breaking the budget on the whole beer cake. Arrange them in a tight circle, as shown below.
The second layer should measure about 6" in diameter. Using your ruler, now sketch a 6" circle on your cardboard (or trace the perimeter of a bowl/plate in the 4" range). Cut out the circle. Cut out a 8" square of wrapping paper and cover the top of the cardboard, securing to the bottom with tape. Place this on top of the first layer for support.
The third layer will use 3 beers. Arrange them tightly on top of the second cardboard round, as pictured below.
The third layer should measure about 4" in diameter. Using your ruler, now sketch a 4" circle on your cardboard (or trace the perimeter of a bowl/plate in the 4" range). Cut out the circle. Cut out a 6" square of wrapping paper and cover the top of the cardboard, securing to the bottom with tape. Place this on top of the first layer for support.
For the last layer, choose a large specialty bottle to top off your "cake".
Now its time to decorate. Wrap layers with decorations of your choice (ribbons, tulle, streamers, number/letter cutouts) to match beer label colors or party theme.
